Creating updo hair styles is similar to sculpting a masterpiece. Each style will be different, and serve a unique purpose… formal, funky, fun, even whimsical.

An updo can be whipped up in one quick sweep for a casual feel, or labored over for hours from start to finish, depending on the function.

Here are some tips for creating professional looking styles.

  • Long Face Shape – opt for a style with a sweeping bang from a side part and more volume on the sides than on top. Too much height on top will accentuate the length of your face.
  • Short Face Shape – try a swept back style with some height on top. Leaving some of the hair down in the back and sides will help elongate your face.
  • Wide Face Shape – leave some hair down at the sides to create length and a narrowing effect.
  • Heart Shaped Face – wear bangs to cover a wide forehead and allow some hair to pool at the shoulders to create width in the narrowest area of the face.

Choosing a Prom Hair Style?  Wondering what prom hair style will suit you?

Get professional advice on choosing a prom hair style to complete your look and make it memorable.

Dress Style and Neckline – Proportion is key here too. If you’re wearing a slender dress, choose a hair style in keeping with that silhouette. If your dress is wide on the bottom, make sure you’ve got a bit of volume to your hairstyle to balance the entire look.

The neckline of your dress is critical to consider when choosing your prom hair style. If your dress has an open neckline in the front and back, wearing the bulk of your hair down would look great. However, if the back is covered or the front and back are both closed in, consider wearing most or all of your hair up off the neck. An elegant updo would suit that type of dress very well.

Updo or Not – Just because it’s a prom hair style doesn’t mean it has to be an updo. Hair left down and styled in voluptuous waves can be every bit as glamorous as an updo hair style. Especially with a few select accessories; a flower behind the ear or a rhinestone tiara. The larger consideration is if a style suits your dress, your face shape and your overall theme.

Protect Your Own Hair While Wearing Hair Extensions

Protect Your Own Hair While Wearing Hair Extensions

Hair extensions can do a lot of things. They can glam up your look for one night. They canimage keep your satisfied while your last hair cut grows out. And they can help protect your hair, if you use them the right way. Don’t let the beautiful premium human hair extensions you’ve installed let you forget to take care of your own hair.

Sew-ins are great for letting your own hair rest in braids beneath your hair extensions. However, if your braids are too tight, it can cause breakage. Make sure that your stylist doesn’t braid your natural hair too tight. Here’s a hint: if it hurts, it’s too tight!

Your natural hair still needs a weekly wash while you’re wearing hair extensions. For the best care, have a professional stylist do it. The reason is that you are trying to clean both your hair extensions and your own hair. Each needs its own approach. If you must wash it yourself, be sure to pat image the entire head dry. If you let your own hair stay wet underneath the hair extensions, it can lead to problems.

Buildup on the scalp while you have hair extensions can be a problem, too. When your hair is completely out, your scalp doesn’t get the airing that it normally does. Use an astringent like witch hazel on your scalp between washings to keep it to avoid buildup.
